FURTHER ACTION.

The meeting was held to discuss

the request of the Portuguese Ambassador

that the Acting Governor of Hong Kong should

be authorised to discuss defence questions

with the Governor of Macao on his proposed

visit to that Colony.

Sir H. Moore

explained that this visit had been proposed

previous to the outbreak of the present

Chinese-Japanese disturbances, purely as a

(purely

matter of courtesy. The Portuguese Ambassador

had, however, asked that the Acting Governor

should be given specific authorisation for a

discussion of defence questions on his visit.

This meeting was held for the purpose of

deciding what we could authorise the Governor

to say and to what extent we could comply with

the
